Things That Make Me Laugh

So, I really don't have anything of "substance" to write but thought I would share a couple of funny pregnancy stories.

First of all, (and again, if you don't want to hear the intimate details that I so proudly share, stop reading ;-)) I have recently found that "maintaining" certain areas is nearly impossible. The other day I thought I cut myself shaving... only to my amazement, when I looked down to inspect, I couldn't see past my belly! There goes that novelty! ;-)

Secondly, I think running is officially an activity of the past for now... I went to the gym last Saturday and got on the treadmill. I speed-walked (if you can even call it that) my regular 30 minutes, then was feeling "ballsy" and thought I would try running. I ran for a whole six minutes, but as I am looking around I noticed a reflection... I looked like a giant ball bouncing down a hallway! I wasn't uncomfortable (beyond the normal feeling of needing to urinate, which happens five minutes in regardless) and I was, of course, watching my heart rate and everything, so I know it was fine - but anything with that much movement is just a bit much. My former Cross Country coach Sara Root was running until she had her last kid. In fact, I am pretty sure that's how she went into labor. While she is my hero and role model when it comes to running, I think I am going to put the shoes down for the last 35 days :-)... Except for my fabulous speed walking!

And finally, I have been having trouble sleeping... and not the "I'm pregnant and uncomfortable" sleep issues (because really I've been lucky in that department so far), but the "I wake up to pee and can't get back to sleep because I am planning my unborn child's entire life" kind of sleep issues. It's too funny! I have been finding that I have a LOT of thoughts in the early morning hours... which leads to my next dilemma. Since I start to think about the pregnancy/mother questions I have, and I know that I will forget them by morning, I have made it a habit of making "lists" in my cell phone about topics I want to explore/research. Here was my topic today: breast milk. How do you store it? How much can you store in the freezer at one time? Do I need to get a separate, mini fridge just for my bags of milk? What should I put them in? A big tupperware? I know this all sounds ridiculous, but seriously, THIS is what goes through my head at 3am! ;-) So, just now I routinely checked my cell phone list of topics to research and I found the first note: beast milk. BEAST MILK!?!??! I just had the funniest image in my head, thinking about some sort of cross between a wild buffalo and a unicorn organizing bags of breast milk. Why is this so funny to me?! ;-)

Breastmilk 411:
1.start pumping right away b/c then you will start your storage for when you go to work... they will tell you not to, but you can (just wait a few weeks to feed your baby from the bottle).
2.If you have a deep freeze that gets down to zero degrees, you are lucky because breastmilk can last 6-12 months in there.4 months in a side by side freezer.
3. You can buy little baggies at babies r us or target to store your breastmilk in... you will need a lot, so buy up!
4. When you leave milk in the fridge you have 72 hours to use it. If you leave it at room temperature you have 4-8 hours to use it.
5. Do not RE-freeze breastmilk... once thawed out, use it in 4-8 hours or dump it.
6. while we are at it, lets do drinking rules: one drink an hour x3 is all you get before you pump and dump! Pumping and dumping will make you sad...
7. any other questions? feel free to ask b/c it is super fresh on the brain!
I'm so excited for you being on the final stretch! Good luck with everything and don't stress about breastfeeding... it's great and the baby will guide you along :)
