Monday, June 15 Update

Our little man is getting so big! Bennett was five weeks old yesterday! His schedules have seemed to “even out” a little. He is still sleeping around 4 hours through the night on MOST nights but will have a fussy evening every now and then where he is awake more frequently. Also, his eating has seemed to slow a bit (not as frequent as once every two hours). He seemed to have a pretty sudden growth spurt. One day last week, I put on one of his newborn onesies and it was skin tight. He is now wearing all 0-3 month, 3 month and some 3-6 month clothing!

Bennett makes lots of noises. He groans, grunts, sighs… he has very good lungs already, and when he cries you can really hear it. When I was born, the nurses said I was the loudest baby in the nursery ;-). I think Bennett takes after me in that department, ha! He doesn’t often cry – only when we change his diaper or he is hungry. He even enjoys bath time (though the drying off and lotion part is chilly for him I think, so he occasionally cries then).

Bennett is a very sound sleeper… We can play loud music, vacuum right next to him, and the dogs can bark and he won’t even budge. It’s pretty incredible!

I still LOVE the sling that Kris Buison made for me… I put Bennett right in it and can get things done. Yesterday I even raked with Bennett! And last night, when he was having trouble getting to sleep (fussy time), I put him in it and just walked around the house until he fell asleep – it was great.

Quinn dropped Bennett on his head for the first time the other day ;-). It’s really not as bad as it sounds! Luckily we were sitting on the bed… Bennett spit up a little bit, and in Quinn’s effort to get the burp rags he accidentally dropped him – a long six inches from his leg to the bed, ha ha! He LOVES to sleep with dad!

Bennett has been noticeably more alert and attentive lately. He still sleeps a lot, but he is starting to be awake more in the day and focus more on us and objects. I have been reading to him and showing him different colors and toys to see what he responds favorably to.

Bennett has the cutest stretches… and stretches often. He throws his arms back behind his head, arches his back, raises his eyebrows and gets out his best kissing lips! ;-)

I finally found a physical resemblance of me! Chin and lips, holy moly!

Regarding other similarities, Bennett has Grandma Donna’s webbed second and third toes!! It is ever so slight, but very cute. Also, Bennett twitches a lot when he sleeps, just like Quinn, Kurtis and Duane.

We’ve had another busy week… We went to Traverse City on Saturday to see Quinn’s grandparents (the Hellengas) on Saturday and had some quality time with cousin Broc again on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, we had the cousins over for brunch and some more pictures!

And time with Nana Donna… I really do think those eyes are going to be blue!!

I took Bennett for a walk in the jogging stroller for the first time today. We went three miles and he slept the whole time. It was nice for both of us to get fresh air on this beautiful 75 degree day!

He is just a doll and I'm glad to hear you are loving mommyhoood... not that I would have expected anything less!
What is the name of that sling thing? I have seen it before and it looks so comfortable. I have a baby bjorn and it hurts my back after like 30 minutes. Do you think that sling would work on an older baby? or just newborns?... fill me in! haha.
Take care,
Kim
