Monday, August 31, 2009: Slacker Central ;-)

When the summer started I was sure that I would be good about “documenting”… blogging and updating. Ha! While it has been the best summer of my life (other than the cold weather), it has also been the busiest.

Bennett is truly amazing! He is now 16 weeks and will be officially four months on September 10. I am not sure how that amount of time has passed already! At his two month appointment he was 14.98 pounds and 24.5 inches long! They said he is in the 97th percentile for both height AND weight… he is literally off the charts! He handled his immunizations much better than I expected and was seemingly unaffected by the shots (other than sleeping a lot). Of course, I made Grandma Donna hold him while the shots were administered so he would have no negative associations with me ;-), hee hee!

Sleep-wise, he’s doing really well! He slept through the night for the first time last week and has done so a few times since… If he does wake up, it is only once for about ten minutes to nurse and then he goes right back to sleep!

We had family from Colorado in town for much of July, and while the Daschers were here I dropped Bennett off a chair in the living room! The dogs were “playing” and got tangled up in each other… Shogun’s jaw got caught around Whiskey’s collar, and Whiskey spinned around, choking him. They were freaking out, and in reaction I jumped up and forgot I was holding Bennett - - no joke! He was just fine, but it was scary! :-)

Bennett is a happy baby with lots of personality. He makes the saddest face you have ever seen, and then smiles soon after! These pics are minutes apart...

He is enjoying his independent time more: in the swing, being on his belly, papasan, bumbo, napping in his crib, etc.

His head and hand control (mid-lining) are really good and he is sucking his thumb occasionally. He is close to sitting up on his own and is very strong. He has been smiling responsively since about 8 weeks and has just started to giggle… Quinn heard it for the first time yesterday! :-) He is still our little “noise box”, making all kinds of funny sounds.

We took Bennett swimming in Loon Lake for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Though the cool water surprised him, he didn’t cry and seemed to like it okay. He really likes bath time now too.

He is focusing on people and things and loves bright colors. I read to him often and he seems to like my silly voices.

Bennett just tried rice cereal for the first time, which was a hoot! He was kicking his legs, waving his arms and breathing in and out excitedly. He really seemed to enjoy it!

He is a BIG BOY!! Although baby clothes sizing seems to be inconsistent, for the most part he is wearing 9-12 months. We have his four month appointment in nine days, so I am anxious to see what he “measures” now!
Quinn recently got a promotion and we will be moving back down state in a couple of weeks… It will be sad to be farther from family, but we are thrilled for Quinn’s opportunity! More details to come…
